Why DPD are the worst delivery company I have ever dealt with

Update: Before I start, I’d like to say thanks for taking the time to read about my woes with DPD. However, I don’t want to give the impression that this is a website dedicated to consumer troubles – if you’re having problems with DPD or any other delivery company, a much better course of action would be to get in touch with them directly. Taking the issue up directly on Twitter seems to be a very good way of getting a response. While I welcome comments and opinions, this post is quite old now, and I am not affiliated with any delivery company in any way, shape, or form. I have left it up for those interested, but if you’re interested in my work or fancy something a bit more positive then this might be a good place to start.

Update 2: It’s coming up to three years since this happened. This post was originally made primarily to vent at the situation, particularly after getting nowhere after having tried to contact DPD. I’ve had a lot of comments, and I appreciate that people are angry with DPD, but that’s not what either me or this site are about. As such, I have disabled comments. If you have a problem with DPD, then I would strongly suggest at least attempting to contact them directly instead.

Anyway! On with the rant.

So, I’ve been thinking about upgrading my rig with a solid-state drive for a while. Last week I decided to go ahead and order one along with a new HDD and spend the weekend having a full system re-install and general tidy session ready for working next week. My system’s in a bit of a disorganised state at the moment, so I figured it would be a nice chance to completely clean house and upgrade my computer at the same time. I ordered said components on the 25th August for next-day delivery on the 26th with DPD… fair enough. I’d like to point out that I recently had a delivery from DPD (on the 1st July) scheduled for next-day delivery which somehow got completely botched and, as a result, I had to wait an extra weekend for my stuff to arrive – so, already, they weren’t exactly in my good books.

My stuff was picked up by DPD on the 26th August and went out for delivery as planned with an expected arrival between 14:59 and 15:59. Great! Except it didn’t arrive. Apparently the driver got caught up in roadworks (which I’m not convinced actually existed) and it was labelled as being rejected by the recipient (i.e. me). I was a little miffed so contacted their customer services and scheduled a delivery for later that day. Later on, I checked the delivery status and noticed it had been set for 30th August. Apparently the driver returned my stuff to the depot and never tried to re-deliver it. Note that this is twice they said they’d deliver my stuff, and both times nobody actually came to the delivery address. Nobody contacted me (despite me giving them my mobile and landline numbers) and I was left in the dark as to what had actually happened.

Another exasperated phone call later and my delivery was re-scheduled for Saturday 27th August between 9am and 1pm. Can you guess what happened next? I’ll give you a hint: it did not end with me receiving the package and cracking on with my plans of upgrading my rig. It did, however, end with me wasting my Saturday morning waiting for this mythical delivery.

Just after 1pm I called their customer support line. Closed for the bank holiday weekend. I tried to call the Leeds depot (where my stuff was being held) and got no answer. I called the Manchester depot and got an answer from an incredibly helpful chap called Wayne. At this point I would like to point out that Wayne is the only good aspect of this series of events – it wasn’t his depot’s responsibility to get my stuff to me, and he was incredibly helpful in trying to chase up my consignment. Unfortunately, it turns out that not only did my package not arrive before 1pm but it looks like it didn’t even go out for delivery at all! The driver of my stuff from the previous day was unreachable, and I’m no closer to getting my stuff. In total, DPD have completely missed THREE scheduled deliveries – four if you include my previous adventure with them in July.

As it’s a bank holiday weekend, I probably won’t be getting my stuff until the 30th August if I’m lucky. Given their current track record, I’m not holding my breath. My entire plan for the weekend has been scuppered, and I’m going to have to sort this out next week when I should really be working on music-related ventures. Here is how things look now (as of 3:27pm on Saturday 27th August):

This is what frustration looks like

Note that the “The parcel was refused by the recipient and returned to the sender” part is a complete and utter fabrication. Nobody attempted to deliver anything to me on Friday 26th August. I’ve wasted an evening and a morning chasing up this thing and I’ve been treated like garbage, and I’m going to have to waste a good chunk of next week sorting stuff out that should have been done over the weekend like I planned. Had I known my stuff wouldn’t have been here until next week, I would have planned my time accordingly… but it seems that me and DPD have wildly varying definitions of the term “next day delivery”.

In summary – my advice to anyone reading this is to avoid DPD like the plague.

      1. Hi

I had a delivery scheduled from ebay, worth 50 pounds, i received a txt message from them stating 4 options, I selected leave with neighbour.
That was on the 17th, however after checking with 2 neighbours either side of my house, they was o delivery.

There was no calling card, delivery note, so I don’t even know where it was left, if it was left somewhere!
I have suspected my neighbours (phsychological stupidity my part!).

However you can understand my frustration?

The latest is the seller has been dealing with DPD, and he sent me tracking information for the parcel this evening.
The tracking information is supposed to help me? Arrrrgggh, the tracking information is the same tracking information that DPD gave me on the 18th when I emailed them.

Basically the seller or DPD need to take responsibility.

The ebay case is to close automatically in FEB some time.

They think I will get frustrated! and just give up.

Why do people do things like this? Why provide a service if you cant deliver??? (meaning in both senses).

        Mannnnn

        Thanks

        Tovia

  1. sorry Adam lol, but the sarcasm in this message does make me laugh a bit.I particularly enjoyed the “i’ll give you a hint” section.Bottom line is when that driver gets to your front door eventually, hands over the parcel, and then asks for a free copy of your album, tell him in no uncertain certain terms to piss off and bang the door closed on him haha!!

    Yeah tuff one there mate.

    1. I’m probably going to have to try really hard to tone down the sarcasm when I inevitably end up giving them a call tomorrow! It’s not so much the delay that really bugs me, it’s the fact that I was lied to twice and had planned my weekend around receiving my parcel which should have arrived on Friday. I’m generally a pretty reasonable guy I think, but this situation really takes the piss.

  2. I just had my first experience of DPD – they left a calling card saying I was out when I was in. This seems to be straight out of the City Link school of customer service, as does your tale above. What amazes me is that the Royal Mail are extremely good, in my experience, at doing this job. Also, supermarkets are great at delivering grocery orders – how much harder can it be to deliver stuff from Amazon?

  3. I feel really stupid for not paying an extra 50p for Royal Mail Special Delivery, to be honest. DPD will certainly not be getting any custom from me again, and I only hope that my cautionary tale serves as a deterrent!

  4. Hey Adam. I’m guessing your home address might be a bit difficult to find for the driver. My experience is the delivery drivers are expected to deliver way more items than they are given time for. My daughter worked as a courier but gave it up as she couldn’t stand the stress. Drivers will quite often bypass whole areas because roadworks can make a certain run 10 minutes longer and they mark deliveries as rejected. If your address is easy to access and clearly numbered and visible from the roadway you have a much better chance of getting deliveries.

  5. I ordered a new PSU for my rig which should have been a next day delivery. I also had the week off because my drive way is being re surfaced, in other words I am in all day every day for the whole week. On the day it should have come it did’nt, & when I checked online it stated that no one answered the door !?!?!?!?!!?
I phoned the supplier who called me back saying it would arrive tommorow….guess what…..thats right the same thing again! I phoned the supplier and asked for a refund, I told them that I would not be ordering from them again because DPD are useless! If more people came down on DPD like a tonn of (engineering) bricks then maybe they’d pull thier finger out and fire the lazy ass drivers! I would’nt mind if the driver stated that he simply missed my delivery, but to lie! Well that man should be shot!

  6. I today suffered the ‘reciepient refused delivery’ note on the tracking page of the DPD website. This is despite the fact I was sat in all day waiting for the package. Needless to say I refused nothing, and now apparently my package has been returned to the sender. Amazon have been less than useless, I can’t arrange re-delivery with DPD as I don’t have the 8 digit calling card number, as no card was deposited through the door. Set of total gimps I’m afraid.

  7. Requested a guaranteed delivery for 1pm Saturday and nobody showed up today, the tracking details have not been updated since “At Sortation Facility” the previous day. Impressive delivery service, at least Amazon refunded the delivery cost straight away but i cannot be arsed with having to wait for a re-delivery now.

  8. I’ve been waiting upon ‘Don’t Piggin’ Deliver’ since last Thursday (Tuesday now) for a next day delivery! Haven’t been able to move more than 6 ft from my door from 8:00am till 6pm every day. Every time the driver says they have put a card through door and no-one to receive it. I will never ever buy anything from anyone who uses this courier again. This is the 3rd time they have done this to me in the last 6 months. Enough is enough.

Pointless complaining to DPD I have found, so I will be complaining to the company who chooses them as their delivery agent. Maybe if they get enough complaints and lost customers they will switch to using Royal Mail, whom I find are exemplary at deliveries. Also, when DPD start to lose customers then maybe they will buck their ideas up – or go out of business – I don’t care.

I am well aware that the drivers are under pressure, but it’s the blatant lying and terrible customer service that I can’t stand. I blame the bosses and the ethics of DPD who see’s their customer base as being those companies who book them to deliver their goods. They lie that delivery was attempted in order to cover their own backs, to give them plausible denyability with their customer. They can’t admit that they couldn’t make the delivery deadline, or they would rapidly find themselves without customers.

My point is – in reality, it is we, the poor person at the end of the line – the recipient – who is actually paying for this service – I am the customer! Well not this shmuck – never again. Two businesses have lost my custom today – the seller and DPD. I will never use either again, (unless the seller changes his courier).

    Hello, Einsteins!

Kindly advise me, why the shipment , picked up on 18.11.2011 from Marl(DE) Germany, still on 24.11.2011 is in transit and no information is given since 17.42 of 22.11.2011.when it returned back to Melle(DE)from Vlotho(DE).
I can understand the erroneous excursion to Vlotho and back (errare humanum), and appreciate the quick return to Melle, but NOT that it took 2 days further delay of the Melle Depot to put it back on track again to Finland.
This rather bitter apppraisal is meant as a constructive critics to improve your systems in the future.

  10. waiting for delivery now for 2 days and now looks like i’ll have to wait whole weekend till it comes now. ordered wednesday for next day delivery it’s now friday evening, well done DPD.

  11. DPD- don’t use, warning DPD couriers are complete cowboys

lazy drivers, no real peopel on the end of the phone when tehre is a problem. Most UK comapanies use shared office buildings. These cowboy couriers park on yellow lines with hazrds on, find the locked front door but don’t do what all other couriers do: push a few buzzers, wait for enetery and then deliver the parcel. It is obvious they aren’t willing to deliver anything past the front door as the would get a ticket as they park on yellow lines and won’t pay for a ticket and they are too lazy to park in the correct car park at the back. Today I waited, saw the van, ran down to open the door and he was already gone. I have tried to fill in feedback forms to tell them their drivers are letting them down, but the forms on the websites won’t allow you to give feedback- clearly they aren’t interested. My advice do not use them they will always dissapoint!

  12. I wanted to ask them if i could come pick up my parcel from there depot as its a few miles from my house. First time i rang the depot they put the phone down on me. Second time they give me a fake number to ring, Third time they don’t answer.I mean whats wrong with them who is in charge do they know what the workforce is doing , seems like they are just the get paid and dose about at the the customers expense.

  13. Thanks a lot to everyone who has posted a comment here – it’s interesting to know that I’m not the only customer who’s been treated poorly by DPD, and hopefully anyone considering choosing DPD as a delivery service will give pause to the number of people dis-satisfied with their service and think twice about their decision.

  14. I’ve just had an argument with a DPD phone agent who told me that it’d be a security risk to put the name of the person they were trying to deliver to on the card they put through the front door of my block of flats. Somehow he was able to magically put these concerns to one side when I asked to speak to his manager (laughably I was also told that there was no managers available at all at any level). He also couldn’t advise why it’d be unsecure for them to confirm that when countless other courier firms are able to fill in their cards, or why there’d be a box on the card they provide to write the name on.

Speaking as someone who used to manage a call centre I was… well, amused as well as annoyed. I wish I still worked at my old firm so I could use DPD’s uselessness as part of a training exercise.

  15. I am waiting for a delivery from kenwood which is being sent by DPD. I only hope I ma one of the lucky ones who gets their parcel OK. I will prepare for ‘war’ if it doesn’t arrive.

  16. Shit, just ordered my nitro rc car with them. I hope it comes on saturday. Idk if they deliver on sat though. Maybe Monday.

  17. yeah! DPD sucks!

waste my whole day without doing anything just waiting them, coz their website display they are out for delivery.
    But nothing I got ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

  18. I work for DPD on some another European country. Reason is that DPD is much cheaper than most of the another firms. Sad to tell, but we DPD workers are way too tired to manage to get everything right. And sorry for my bad english, but it’s the truth at least over here in Northern Europe.

  19. I always have my packages delivered by GLS, but in my last order from Germany to Denmark, I made the terrible mistake to not check what delivery option was selected, and lo and behold, it was DPD, a company I have never dealt with before, and I will NEVER deal with in future.

I work from home. Yet, here they are, claiming they have tried to deliver my packages but failed, on a day when both I and my husband were at home. It is impossible they have tried to deliver. Now my animals are without food, my husband is away , and I have to go and pick up 30 kg of food from the “nearest” post office, when I cannot lift even 5 kg due to rheumatoid arthritis. I was informed it is not the company’s policy to call the customer’s phone number in case they cannot deliver (how convenient!), they don’t leave a note and they don’t try to deliver twice. I have never dealt with a more ridiculous company than DPD and will make sure to spread the word, although from my brief Google search, a lot of people are well aware. Makes you wonder how such a company can survive competition at all. I would be glad to see it go bankrupt.

  20. Worst courier I have ever dealt with.

Sender sent package next day delivery on 2 August 2012. Today is 14 August and I still have not received it due to their incompetence/system not updating.
One excuse given to the sender was a bank holiday in Republic of Ireland even though I don’t live there.

I have requested a return to sender and I will purchase somewhere else.

I will be more cautious where i purchase from in future ie which courier they use

  22. I’m going to pick it up from local depot tomorrow = 45 miles, last time i spent 3 weeks waiting for my rat 9 mouse = not again

  23. well guys i work for dpd can u imagine instead of sitting in your office, try getting to depot for 6 am then having to sort scan optimise number then load parcels along with paperwork, then going out with your drops which are only 2 minutes per drop…then our scanners beeping constantly with more jobs…collections…most of time i work through my break….for instance 3 days ago i turned up to a house, knocked, pressed doorbell and then tried 2 neighbours….no1 answers then i get a call saying is there any chance you could try again….and because i am not actually lazy and do enjoy my job and try to keep customers happy i went along in my break, my own time and redelivered 2 hours later….customer was beaming…sounds like uve had a bad driver try getting an odf that has 100+parcels a day…10 seconds on door and gone, we are not all bad and some of us do try, for our customers sake, i dont get delivery bonus and from a 23 year old ude expect me not to give a f&*#.the amount of peop,e that order, get the text and then are too lazy to select the redeliver option before we get there and they are the timewasters…giving your delivery less time…please dont tarnish all dpd drivers with the same brush as im also from leeds…dpd is a good honest company well in front of others but everyone makes mistakes…only difference is dpd are spending millions on trying to get it right…yodel hdnl dhl citylink, you would have recieved it next day, over back gate, your dogs chewed it or in the green bin on bin day…at least we can account for its every move, item security is number 1!!!!!!!!!

    1. Hi Dave, thanks for getting in touch.

This incident occurred well over a year ago now. Having said that, you are the first person from DPD since this delivery to actually get in contact with me. So, kudos! I’ve more or less let this one go but, given the situation, I felt I should probably respond.

For the sake of balance: I have since used DPD for a few orders through Amazon (alas, not by choice!) and they’ve all gone without a hitch. Unfortunately for DPD as a company, actually getting a service I’ve paid for is hardly grounds for celebration.

Regarding your “instead of sitting in your office” remark – whether you choose to believe it or not, I actually work incredibly hard for a living. Being self-employed is not all sunshine and rainbows, and I can assure you that I do more than just sit on my backside flipping through spreadsheets all day. One thing I absolutely cannot stand is having my time wasted.

Maybe the other companies you listed wouldn’t have fared any better in this situation, but that doesn’t excuse the shoddy service I received from DPD. DPD were the ones who messed up my delivery and I have certainly never experienced this treatment with any other delivery company.

It sounds like you work a brutal schedule, and if drivers are generally over-worked as you describe then DPD should perhaps consider hiring more drivers to meet demand. That would be better than lying to their paying customers which, no matter how you slice it, is exactly what happened to me. Knowingly not having enough drivers to meet the volume of deliveries received and brushing it off as a customer error is, quite frankly, appalling. If I had experienced this service with any other company then you can bet I would be making a fuss about them as well. DPD are not a small company, and I’m sure they could afford to hire more staff to meet their apparently burgeoning demand. As it is, they sound like a horrible company to work for.

I am not trying to “tarnish… all dpd drivers with the same brush” as you describe – I am saying that, as a company, DPD need(ed?) to get their act together (this was posted a year ago, things may have changed for all I know). The other comments here suggest this is not an isolated incident. I am quite sure that there are plenty of excellent drivers who work for DPD, and I’d like to commend them for doing a good job. You might also notice that I praised Wayne at the Manchester depot for actually trying his best to help me out, which was incredibly good of him considering that my delivery had nothing to do with his depot.

I’m not going to touch the whole “[people who are] too lazy to select the redeliver option before we get there” topic because I wasn’t dealing with DPD’s customers. I was dealing with DPD. Telling me that DPD’s customers are lazy time-wasters does not particularly endear me to DPD.

In short: if DPD don’t want suckers like me posting stuff like this online, then perhaps they (and I am laying the blame primarily with the organisational structure, not the drivers) should consider addressing these issues instead of ignoring them.

    2. Dave, poor you!. As a driver, my day started with sorting, loading van and then the laborious, time consuming route mapping …FROM A MAP!, all taking at least an hours work before starting the gruelling, day long delivery schedule . Deliveries were mostly rural, you know where all country lanes look the same and can lead to dead ends?. All parcels delivered if not returned to base ready for next day …this was before the luxury of sat navs!. Surely if a girlie could do all that without excusing failure than a burly bloke can.

  24. Stumbled across this page a week ago whilst wondering whether I was alone. Seems not.

My Saturday delivery was collected from [supplier] on Friday 10am. Using the tracking system I could see it had been driven to the sorting centre in Birmingham and had arrived twice (!) once at midnight, once at about 1am Saturday morning.

When logging in I was a bit wary in that it hadn’t moved from there and it was now 9.15am. I rang, and automated Sue (I’ll call her that) told me that I should ring back after 11am.

At 11.55 I did ring back, was told by Sue to sit tight for a real life operator, but gave up after sitting in a queue for 5-10 minutes.

Unwitting I then tried after eating lunch, 13:05, and having gone through the menu items Sue told me she would normally transfer me to an operator, but that their office was now closed.

Saturday continues to roll by. No call. No update. No cancellation. No communication.

Monday rocks up and I’m at work. Congratulations comes the text message, we are going to deliver to your house today! Aren’t you lucky! Oh – we’ll be there in half an hour to an hour and a half.

I’m at work. Nevertheless – my wife has taken the day off so she can collect it for me. So she stays in. No sign at 9.30, 10.30, 11.30, etc.

You get the picture. No call. No update. No cancellation. No communication.

4.45pm – status update. We were unable to deliver your package.

Well; what you mean was, you didn’t try to deliver the package. She can see the road from where she’s working, and you just haven’t bothered to drive to our address.

Okay. Now to add some balance. I bought the item instead from [large online retailer] and groaned when I realised DPD would deliver. However this time, I chose my work address in central Manchester. Delivery arrives early (maybe some would consider this just as bad as late).

So it seems: “DPD – we’ll deliver if you’re near other people. If not – tough luck.”

  25. I bought some items on eBay (Germany) for delivery to my barracks here in Germany and DPD were the couriers. using their tracking service apparently they tried to deliver but couldn’t find the address. I phones the retailer and again delivery was “attempted” and again address could not be found. how in Gods name can you not find a huge Army barracks about half a mile long on a public road. i entered my address exactly as I have given to the retailer on Google maps and it it worked perfectly. i also tried it on my sat nav and again perfect. there must be some lazy drivers out there

  26. This is mostly due to the drivers not getting paid enough per delivery, so unless they do these antics they don’t even break even.

  27. OMG. Just been sat in waiting for a delivery from DPD… Guess what! I’ve been waiting for a vital spare part for my boiler as I’m sat in a cold house with no hot water and a 3y old with tonsilitis. DPD attempted delivery to the wrong house despite there only being houses on one side of the road and all of them having clear numbers on. Customer services said that the driver might be able to come back but “traffic was building in the area”. Seeing as I called them within ten minutes of the tracking info on their site being updated surely the driver can’t be that far away?
I will not be able to accept delivery tomorrow as nobody will be in the house so that leaves me waiting till Monday for something that was supposed to arrive today (Friday). Absolute idiots.

  28. Yep, I’m waiting for a parcel due for delivery today 12 Nov,its not turned up and its been impossible to track on their site, its a ‘to be signed for’ package and they say make sure someone is at home to sign. I cant get them to recognise either the parcel number or consignment number. I’m completely in the dark with no further information available. DPD so far is not a great experience.

  29. Haha, I guess it’s sometimes the luck of the draw, or something like that. At the moment, DPD are my favourite courier, since I’ve yet to encounter any problems with them, and they’re the only company that actually tell me roughly what time my stuff’s supposed to arrive (and they’ve been pretty good at keeping to that).

I have experienced problems like yours with other companies, though (and, knowing my luck, DPD will be the ones to mess up next, LOL). City Link have been one of the worst, though ironically I’ve always found their email-based customer service to be really helpful. *boggle*

These days when I have issues with a courier, I tend to just harass the retailer I bought the stuff from instead; it;s too exhausting otherwise. -_-

  30. Hi used to work for DPD probably the worst job ever. they never gave any care over parcels throwing them around and basically letting quantity over quality. i remember once i was handling a 42 inch plasma TV. my manager goes whats taking you so long i go its a fragile parcel for one person. he said forget the parcel just get it moved. the reasons why parcels are late are because of the pressure put on staff to deliver so many parcels in such a short period of time.

  31. I waited all of yesterday for my parcel and DPD never turned up. Their automated line could not track the consignment or recognise my phone number. I got an email from them today saying they would deliver between 15.06 and 16.06. I waited again … didn’t even dare go to ease myself in case DPD left before I could get to the door. At 15.52, I go to check – seeing as there was only a few minutes to their deadline – ONLY TO FIND A CARD signed at 1522. I was near tears … Nobody had knocked or rung the bell, the lights were on at the property and my car was on the drive. The Courier had NOT made any effort to check that nobody was home before leaving a calling card. It’s 17:20 and I am still reeling with anger at the irresponsible employee of the irresponsible courier company that the Sender of my parcel allocated its delivery to. Unfortunately, I am going to have to wait for them again tomorrow … that’ll be 3 WHOLE DAYS OF WAITING FOR GODOT! YOu have no idea how angry I am! I will never use them or recommend them for use.

  32. Wednesday 11.12.12
I get email from DPD saying my delivery will arrive 12.12.12. I waited all of 12.12.12 for my parcel and DPD never turned up. Their automated line could not track the consignment or recognise my phone number. No email, text or phone call from DPD at all.

    Thursday 12.12.12.
I got an email from DPD on 12.12.12 saying they would deliver between 15.06 and 16.06. I waited again ALL DAY seeing as the contents of the parcel were important for distribution to my customers … didn’t even dare go to ease myself in case DPD left before I could get to the door. At 1552, I go to check – seeing as there was only a few minutes to their deadline of 1606 – ONLY TO FIND A CARD signed at 1522. I was near tears … Nobody had knocked or rung the bell, the lights were on at the property and my car was on the drive. The DPD Driver had NOT made any effort to check that nobody was home before leaving a calling card.

I get on back on the phone to the Sender, who says they will get in touch with DPD and let me know. I reschedule delivery for 14.12.12 and this was confirmed by automated email and also by DPD customer service in another email which gave a delivery time frame of 0800 to 1800 but to expect an email or text message with the exact delivery hour slot. The sender also confirms this by email.

    Friday 13.12.12
DPD is incommunicado. I email DPD and Sender after midday to say I had not received the delivery slot email or text promised for the morning. No response from either. Tracked on DPD site around 1500 only to find parcel never left the depot (same situation as the original ‘no-show’ delivery date of 12.12.12).
I was near tears yesterday? I cried today … my heart actually physically aches … My head aches. I am not crazy, I launched my business on Monday and have only missed one full week’s worth of business because DPD just would not do what it was paid to do ensured it wasted my precious time. I wake up at 3 am in the morning and don’t sleep until 10pm, and usually need an hour’s nap during the day, I have not had that 3 days running because I daren’t shut eye in case I miss DPD … I am tired, shattered , angry, hurt that a delivery company could treat parcel recipients . It is past 1800 – the delivery deadline for today – and DPD is still incommunicado.

Will the parcel arrive tomorrow Saturday or on Monday ?? That is the million dollar question that even DPD is unable to answer, going by its track record of promise and fail 3 days in a row.

My opinion of DPD: An irresponsible courier company, run by irresponsible people who use overworked and under-motivated employees and cares about nothing other than its profit. I will never use them or recommend them for use; and I will never purchase a product or service from any business that uses them. Never will I allow myself to be subjected to the DPD treatment ever again! DPD is utterly useless!

  33. DPD are shocking and I have had to return a few Items from different on-line stores because of there incompetence.

  34. on the 20/12/12 a DPD driver was due to deliver a box to take my laplop for repairs. I received a text stating that Chris would deliver between 11.11 and 12.11pm I saw a dpd driver on the opposite side of the road around (still on Dartmouth rd) between 11.30-11.45 but they never knock/pressed the bell.

I contacted the suppliers of the laptop and they told me that a driver attempted to deliver however the driver did not leave a card on that day and I was told if the driver had any difficulties he would call of text my phone (this never happened).

The delivery got rescheduled for 21/12/12. I revised another text stating the driver would arrive between 11.05-12.05. I was in-my doorbell works perfectly and at 11.15 I heard my letter box however it was not a knock it was a card being dropped. I opened the door but the driver was nowhere insight.

I contacted the suppliers of my laptop and they arranged for a collection (not for a delivery) I was told it would be collected between 11.37 and 17.00pm. At 15.00 I phoned my suppliers and asked if anyone had ”claimed” they had attempted to deliver and they contacted DPD and said no the driver should be there between 15.00 and 17.00. However, the driver did not come or did any one leave a note.

Interestingly, I waited outside my front door for the hours between 15.30 and 17.30 and I saw plenty of dpd van and I wrote down a few licences plates numbers of dpd vans. Although I have rescheduled I was wondering why dpd drivers do not provide a good service?

I fully understand that December is a busy period but this is not the first time dpd driver has not knocked/pressed the bell!

  35. I had Dreadfully Poor Delivery turn up with a parcel about two months ago. Since I was expecting TWO parcels, I commented on this to the driver, saying it was odd they’d send the two in separate van runs … a few minutes later he returned with the second one, having missed it the first time.

Today is Saturday, 6:20pm. I was really impressed to get a text message last night confirming they’d be delivering today, complete with a tracking number and options for delivering to a neighbour or rescheduling if I needed to … except the tracking information says the parcel is still in Birmingham now, 330 miles from here (Scotland). I tried emailing them, asking why it isn’t even in the right *country* yet on the claimed delivery date (having paid extra for Saturday non-delivery!) – no reply, of course, so I’ve contacted the retailer too.

I suppose I’ll just have to wait here all day on Monday, too, on the off-chance they bother to show up this time. Failing that, it seems their next slot is next Thursday, a whopping five days late thanks to the two public holidays they seem to be taking.

  36. Regarding my delivery, I wasn’t given time to get my phone out of my pocket to answer the call. When I tried to dial the number shown, it showed 14 digits and wouldn’t connect. Meantime my parcel is on its way back to England and my car is in bits – as am I.

  37. I was waiting at home for this parcel this morning when I received an email to tell that it would be arriving between 08:58 – 09:58.

The time came and went and around 10:20 I went to check my post box upstairs in our entrance hall to see if the package had arrived.

    There was no package

I checked on the website using the above parcel number and it said it had been delivered and signed for by “POST”

I called customer services who then spoke to the driver and told me that the driver “left in in the ground floor entrance hall”.

I now have no package and no proof that it was signed for or delivered,

On talking to your customer services team I was told that this is to be taken up with Amazon.

I assume therefore you feel that this it not your responsibility and I am going to have to spend my own time emailing amazon and disputing the delivery, I am currently out of pocket by £45.

Attached below it the email which was sent back to me when I clicked the option to have the package left with a neighbor. This option clearly stated that if i could not be contacted then the package would be left with a neighbor.

I now have no package and no proof that it was signed for or delivered, For all I know, the package was never delivered.

I am appalled that this has been allowed and will speaking to Amazon directly about this sequence of events,

    HI Phil,

I am sorry I was not in touch yesterday, I can confirm we have had to bring the investigation to a close as the driver cannot seem to remember where he left the parcel, I did check this afternoon if we had your order in stock and it seems we have all of it apart from the Ruark radio which are due to arrive with us any day now. I will have this stock reserved for you and as soon as we have received our delivery from Ruark we can dispatch a replacement order, please accept my apologies for all the inconvenience caused.

    Kind regards

  40. I awaited a delivery from DPD today, due between 14.38 and 15.38. Never having had anything from them before I thought, what good service two texts, one to say the day and that morning one to say the time frame. Excellent, or so I thought. to explain, I am disabled and looking after a pet for a friend who has gone abroad for 1yr, at the last minute they were refused consent to take him. He’s an outdoor person and mine are 100% indoors, despite being treated regularly in accordance with pet passport requirements he had juvenile fleas which I discovered. Having been free of them for many years ii immediately ordered flea treatment, sprays, collars etc etc. I had to have someone come into strip the furnishings in my lounge where the cats been staying and get everything washed and theres a lot. This means I now have no seat cushions on my furniture or back cushions. I have nowhere else to sit in relative comfort and as I am disabled this is vital for me. The goods were ordered to be here today without fail as I was supposed to be away for the weekend, that meant the place could be sprayed everywhere and back to normal for me on my return home. When I ordered the goods I stated where the parcel was to be left as I knew I couldn’t get up quickly. I also put a clear not addressed to DPD delivery stating where the parcel was to be left. I heard a knock, got up went to the door and there was no one there but there was a card through my door stating I wasn’t in. The goods now have to come on Monday, when I wont be in and I in the meantime have to spend a whole weekend plus today and early Monday with nowhere to sit other than my bed. I am so angry I cant begin to say, I have complained to the company I ordered the goods from and gone through DPD’s website to try and lodge a complaint there too. There will also be one in writing, recorded delivery so they cant say they didn’t receive it, im furious these idiots have done this to anyone let alone a disabled person in my situation!

  41. I am trying to get DPD to NOT deliver a parcel but reading these comments I really hope I am in luck. I have moved address and a parcel being sent to me is going to the WRONG address. Being as the house was shared and there are two other girls living there IF the parcel is delivered one of them will sign for it. (They BOTH have mental health issues hence the relocation). 🙁

  42. Hi im a Dpd driver from manchester, dpd is a good company for customers but it does have floors.
We are not lazy just under pressure.
Dpd pride themselves on the 1hour window for customers, which puts us under pressure.
We only have couple minutes per drop,so if for any reason say customer takes too long say at business with a bulk load or traffic problems etc that eats into our delivery time.
Because company pride themselves on eta delivery time that puts us under pressure and if there is any problems like running late on eta, then they want us to miss stops to keep in that eta window.
If u are the unlucky one to fall for this then most likely u will not receive your parcel that day because we are that busy we cant get back later and have to nta(no time available),most drivers work 12 hour shifts so cant attempt later. Some drivers will say they have put a card even though they havent because if they say nta that means we have to deliver next day before 12,which adds more pressure for next day.
Same goes for utl(unable to locate) which means before 12 next day etc.
As for apartment and flats,if i get there and get no answer or buzzer not working(which isnt drivers fault) and im supposed to leave yellow card and cant because cant get access to building as post box is inside.
If like other companys i leave card outside someone else can get hold of it and change delivery address etc, which is security risk, then me as driver has to explain if i deliver to an address and u complain you havent received your parcel.
Same thing if you ask me to leave in a safe place.
Dpd are very strict on security of your parcels.
So no im not lazy or bone idle, yes im under stress and do try very hard to deliver your parcel.
Odf drivers(owner franchise drivers) are under a lot of pressure as they work for themselves and only get paid for a successful drop.
So if there is critism, blame the company management and structure.

    This is to management.

You strive for eta, thats good for customers, not good for drivers because you want to give out warnings for eta performance which puts drivers under pressure to take short cuts or brake the law.
Also you need to put more information on saturns.
As for example poor traffic, running late wont be able to make delivery, yellow carded flat cant leave yellow card(so text or email card number to customer),put more yellow card options etc to let customers know why so they dont think driver and company is lying.

To all customers it is a good service with predict with a 1 hour window that nobody else provides, but it does have floors if for any reason something goes wrong then you might not get parcel that day and that is a shame, so yes Dpd can always do better like employ more drivers instead of getting us drivers to do 100 plus drops a day which we might not be able to handle just to clear warehouse floor.
Also maybe you might want to keep a closer look at the som’s to make sure we have no exceptions and if drivers are failing eta, under which som they are failing eta performance and why, like too many drops or delivering whilst suppose to be collecting etc and discipline the som’s for doing this.

    Yours Sincerley

  44. Uay – yat another delivery that they’ve claimed has been rejected by recipient, and “therefore must be returned to the sender” in another country!

Genius – especially as they look to have got the address wrong somewhere, they apparently have no packages addressed to me…

  45. I agree that DPD have no regard for customers and have caused me to waste my day driving 1.5 hours each way to collect the parcel they failed to deliver on their next day delivery terms. The item was a business mobile phone and BT made special effort to ensure this was delivered to me the following day after mine was stolen, its just a shame they relied on the wrong company. I spent most of this morning trying to get through to someone (they don’t seem to like answering phones), then when I did I was told to collect from their depot, 45 miles from my home. I got to the depot and they first tell me I cant have the parcel without photo ID (this was not mentioned on the phone before I left), then they tell me I cant have the parcel because it is left in the back of the van that failed to deliver it. So not only do I not have the phone I desperately needed prior to flying out of the country for a week, they have also cost me £40 in petrol and 3 hours of my time. PLEASE DO YOURSELVES A FAVOUR AND USE ANY OTHER COMPANY, BUT NOT DPD.

  46. I have had nothing but bother also, saying they had delivered when the delivery driver was too lazy to go in a lift. This should help in future! (hopefully you wont ever need to have anything delivered by this mob again)

  47. One of my wholesalers uses DPD as their Delivery Agent and in the end after about 15 utterly botched deliveries I stopped working with that partner all together. That was until i used Amazon for the first time in about 4 years and guess what? Thats right another botched delivery by DPD. Fortunately I managed to apologise for taking it out on my wholesaler, as it became apparent it wasn’t their fault, and get them back on board but if DPD continues to fail I am considering suing them for loss of earnings and breach of contract. I hope many more people whom are forced to use them do the same. I also make a note to notify Customer Service staff to ensure they are aware of any failings by DPD when carrying out deliveries.

  48. I and my friends have had nothing but trouble from DPD. I had one delivery whereby the driver called me and he was in the wrong town. I sent a package to my parents who live in a retirement village that has a locked gate on the drive with entry phone and reception clearly signposted as you enter the complex. I sent this via prime delivery which was meant to arrive on Monday. No problems with trees in area. It was then delayed until Tuesday. On Tuesday afternoon my parents saw the van driving around the complex without the drive getting out of the van and the package was not delivered. I managed eventually to get through to the company on Wednesday morning and found that the driver had reported not being able to find the apartment. That is a bit difficult if you do not leave the vehicle to go into the building. There is also a reception where packages, letters etc can be left. Directions are also given and the residents can be called just like an hotel. The drivers do not want to waste their time looking. I understand they are on a tight schedule and only get paid for deliveries. I therefore; expect that it is financially prudent not to deliver anything that takes time to deliver i.e. find the apartment, road not easily found and having to walk more than 4 meters (12 foot) to a door. Amazon PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY ANY MORE.

  49. Just had a similar experience. Yesterday they supposedly tried to deliver my parcel in the morning, but were unable to since no one could sign for the package. According to the tracking service they tried again later the same day (October 29th) with the same excuse as to why it didn’t get delivered. Problem is I was at home all day and no one tried to call me even though they had my number, no one tried to knock on the door and neither did they leave a note in my mailbox. Today it received it, but of course the package and its content is fucking destroyed. I mean completely destroyed. A 60GB PS3 with firmware 3.55 and the emulated backwards compatibility bought for £180. The case is cracked, crooked and broken everywhere and it does not start at all. The external package is also damaged.
    NEVER EVER USE DPD!

  50. We’ll I’m not alone when it comes to dpd was expecting a parcel and didn’t arrive when I rang them they said a calling card was left but no calling card was delivered to me when I asked them where my parcel was they said it has been returned to sender i said WHAT WHY!! They replyed no one was there to collect parcel, I got in touch with sender and they sent it out again via dpd
And guess what yes they said they left a calling card do you think I could find it NO!
I just gave up in the end
Fed up with DPD and angry that I actually paid them £12 for a special delivery slot and still NO PARCEL
    shame on you DPD!!!!

  51. worst company i have ever came accross, i wasted 3 months, 3 WHOLE FKING MONTHS TRYING TO SEND A DEFECT LAPTOP I BOUGHT FOR 1000 EUROS+, i try to sent it back from day 1 since i got it and its being like hell on earth(im sorry but my time, my head is going to explode). I requested lenevo for the dpd phone number, and i got it. The problem was ” I CANT CONTACT THAT NUMBER” so i went web searching hours and hours, realize dpd was behind the whole courier. So i called them and they responded. few days later i got a called from the courier themselves, the guy asked me ” why couldnt i called the phone number” i ssaid “idk” so he arranged on that Thur or Fri, they will come to collect my laptop(this was Halloween week), so i wated stayed up 8-12 all morning on the two days no one came so i thought to myself “maybe its because of halloween” so i waited for another week still NOTHING! and now its the third week. I still have the laptop since 3 months of wrecking myself over something that was not my fault. Im nearly at the point where i would sue them, i just can’t deal with this much longer. They make it so so hard i mean really hard for costumers, and im fed up with it.

  52. Pre ordered xbox one, driver arrives with no parcel in van. Paid next day delivery, now need to wait till Monday. CLOWNS

  53. I also pre-ordered the xbox one from PCWorld who used DPD. Got a text from DPD saying delivery will be on Friday 22nd of Nov. I waited in all day on Friday and used the tracking system to see that it took a WHOLE DAY to move from Nottingham to Birmingham hub 3, there goes my Friday delivery! Now when I emailed them I got the auto response that my parcel will be delivered on the Monday 25th with a further email to confirm the one hour window, going by the previous reviews on this service, I will not be building my hopes up, for this to arrive either.
Oh and I will also be reviewing PCWORLD who used this useless courier. DPD you can expect further postings about your horrible service on the web, in fact it’s going to be my new hobby from this day on.

  54. Been working since 8am. Waiting for DPD delivery between 9.45-10.45. Got an email at 10.01 saying no one was in. What a joke. Went on the website and tried to call all i got was a talking telephone. I sent a form over by the website take 24hrs to respond that’s no good I just want my parcel. Finally got to talk to someone on the phone. What a wast of time that was. Will I get my parcel tomorrow god only knows. I’ve even got a sign on the door deliveries this way. No one came to the door as I’ve now checked the cctv.

  55. Ordered an hi-fi amp from amazon, delivered by DPD.

Day of the delivery they showed me as signing refusal for the item. I called to say that was impossible as no one at the office saw any delivery attempt and I was hardly going to refuse an item I had ordered and paid for.

The CS agent tried to say maybe it was someone else with a similar name to mine and that she could email me the signature (I have a very very uncommon name, and only 12 people work at our office and none have a name close to mine so…) and rescheduled delivery. 20 minutes after they rescheduled they remarked it return to sender. I get they may be obligated to return to sender based on the senders instructions but why oh why tell me they would redeliver.

Amazon now have to refund my card, up to 10 working days, but the amazon CS enthusiastically told me I could just reorder the item! Sure, so I can wait for it to not be delivered again. Amazon turn over so much that it seems they really aren’t that interested in the delivery time frames they promise. A foolish try of Amazon Prime last year led to me only getting 2 out of 7 items within their much vaunted next day delivery, I would have been better of getting free delivery at 3-5 working days, and their only response is to give you a free month of prime for each failed delivery. The few things I’ve order from amazon have been 1-3 days beyond their delivery time frame. It’s getting to the point that I’m entirely giving up on using them.

  56. NEVER USE DPD.

Not for the first time a delivery has not been actually attempted by DPD. Even though I am home and working looking straight out over my driveway with a wall of glass between me and anyone visiting my house – the parcel has been left with my “neighbour”. However the “neighbour” is in a separate road and I have to pass 15 houses to get to them. My real neighbour has been in all morning as well.

I’ve long learnt from past experience and my other peoples experience – NEVER USE DPD.

  57. i worked for them i only did one job for them from 10am to oo30 the next day now they refuse to pay me,first they said i didnt do any work now they are saying i walked off the job what a shower of garbage they are if they dont pay me with in 14 days i will take the matter to the county court

  58. So pissed off.. Been waiting 3 days for my parcel to arrive now.. Sick of getting fobbed off by there customer services. They have just ruined my kids Xmas.. Thanks ever so much dpd.. You are all a complete bunch of t••••.

  59. Got an email stating my parcel would arrive between 10-11am waiting all day and nothing showed up except for a stupid card saying no one was in to receive the parcel !
Lesson learnt and will never use DPD again , although i did complain to Amazon who refunded the express delivery cost.
Not sure if my parcel will ever show up !
Bye bye DPD nice meeting you but just like an ex girlfriend i am never coming back to you !

  60. I think DPD are brilliant. I have received several dozen items from them and only once did I have a problem when the item took a week to arrive. I let the seller sort this out and whilst it was annoying, it is the only time I have had a problem. In the hour time slot they give, ninety nine per cent of the time they arrive during the first ten minutes and they are always polite.

  61. DPD are a bunch of tossers! I’ve no doubt some of their drivers do make deliveries, and do it well. But I’ll never use them again. Ordered 3 items on next day delivery from Amazon. Was home all day – no delivery, no card, nothing. Got email from Daft Parcel Douchebags saying delivery attempted but failed as no one was in. Crap! At the time they said they’d deliver, I actually saw the van drive away – without having delivered anything. No card was left either. The driver was a lying lazy S.O.B. who couldn’t be bothered to get out the van.

I tracked my parcels – guess what? An update, saying delivery attempted, but failed as nobody was in to sign for it! That’s a load of B.S. The driver just couldn’t be bothered to deliver and lied. It wasn’t a case of me not hearing the door or bell due to being in the loo or listening to music. I have LOUD doorbell, and was sitting literally feet away from the door. I was very frustrated, as I needed one of the items I’d ordered urgently.

Contacted Amazon. Told them I was home, and saw the van drive away. Told them no delivery was attempted. Amazon kept me on hold for only 5 minutes. Result? They’ve raised 3 complaints with DPD Management about the failed delivery. Have arranged re-delivery of items tomorrow – no time mentioned on the email though. That means another day wasted.

I’d rather opt for a slower but more reliable delivery with Royal Mail. At least they actually leave a card so you know they’ve been. If I miss delivery with RM I can pick it up at my local collecting office. Goodbye to the feckless idiots in DPD. Rubbish delivery service.

  62. I`ve been checking my tracking updates for a £1400 parcel which should arrive today and frustratingly it seems to have sat in Birmingham for the past 31 hours. I wouldnt mind but even driving by car direct to Oban in Scotland is gonna take 8 hours. They either have messed up the order or have not updated the site (in which case whats the point in having tracking). I hope this chain of letters does not reflect the experience i may be in the process of witnessing. God i hate relying on folk, part of the package is my sons birthday present – TODAY-.

  63. My Parcel was stolen certainly by DPD Staff

The Parcel was sent to us, from Poland, on 12/12/2013, picked up by DPD staff and has been treated as described on bellow (copied and pasted from Tracking website).
Aparently has arrived to the UK on the 20th of December. Inside there were some Christmas presents for the children and a pair of Roof bars grips from my car that I’ve forgotten when I’ve been there on Holidays.
By some supernatural power, my parcel has disappeared from “HUB 3 – Brimingham” on the 23rd of December. We’ve tried (us and the sender) to contact DPD and the answers were always very evasive and saying that there were investigations going on. One of the times I’ve tried to contact DPD Poland, one English speaker staff (female) said to her colleague (in Polish of course) “There is a crazy guy here and I cannot get along with him”
The sender (my sister in law) made the complain early January, Few weeks later my sister in Law was asked for the receipts of the items what she answered that she did not have it as some items were not hers and the grips I’ve bought it in Portugal, long time ago. Last week had a phone call from DPD in Poland saying that no compensation would take place because there is too long time already past and she cannot provide the receipts and, also, because the service had been contracted with another company, which is NOT TRUE AS I HAVE THE SHIPMENT WAY BILL AND SAYS CLEARLY DPD.
Is there any way to commit burglary lawfully? Apparently YES! Because some Staff just take possession without consent and they are protected by Management.
The parcel as been sent 3 months and 2 days ago and it is still ready for delivery as can be seen below.
When picked up, the sender has declared a value of 1600 Zlots (around £300) because just my grips worth nearly £220 and DPD does not refund the value and the money paid for the shipment has not been refunded neither.
Basically I was robbed and I paid for it.
For the staff who stole my items I have to say: ” Enjoy it and be careful because one day you may have a job in what you are not protected”
For the DPD Complaints department (in Poland and England) I have to say: “Your are not less burglars than the staff who stole items so SHAME ON YOU!” Also I leave here the promise that I will do my best, and I really will, to take my experience as far as I can in order to protect people from you.
A parcel being lost or being given the wrong destiny I would say that it is acceptable. What is not acceptable is the mistreatment given to the losses and to the clients and there are very visible all the efforts made by DPD in order to get way with their responsibilities which are getting paid to provide a service to take something, which belongs to someone, to somewhere and if does not happens, so just have to compensate people for the losses. But you guys do not care, do you?

  64. If you want your parcel to arrive on a day you expect it DO NOT use DPD.
Ordered an item online with next day delivery, received texts confirming the times etc., waited whole day for the parcel only to receive a text late in a day that the driver tried to deliver it but there was nobody at premises and he left a card which was an absolute lie. They even took a picture of what’s supposed to be my house which in fact is a nearby Pub !!!

This is not the first time I had parcel delivered by DPD and every time it was a distaster. When they were delivering the last parcel I checked on their site the latest status which showed that the driver is 0.5 a mile away and it should be with me in 30mins. Few minutes later I received a text saying that the parcel was reschedule for next day!!! I asked why was it and was told that driver’s car broke down somewhere 30 miles away which obviously was another lie.

These people have no respect for either your parcel (videos on YouTube) or their clients.

I buy online regularly and have never ever had any problems with deliveries but DPD ones. This company shouldn’t exists as it’s a disgrace.

  65. Fuckers bloody came into my estate with my new compound bow checked one side for my house number and drove off

  66. what a crock of shit this bunch of jobs worth’s are!!
